Writing your Google Adwords advert can be a real dilemma for the small business owner who doesn’t know a great deal about Adwords.  When consulting with our Perth based and east coast Australian clients, I have found some basic information goes a long way.  Here is 3 simple tips to help when writing your Google Adwords Adds.

Adwords Tip Number 1 – Use the targeted keywords in the headline.

Back in the old days when I use to open the yellow pages paper directory to find a businesses, I noticed that I was always drawn to call an advert that had the name of the product that I wanted to purchase in the advert.  Whether the products I needed were ‘business cards’ or ‘hot water systems’ or ‘life insurance’, if the advert actually had these words in it, their was a much better chance that I would call.

Similarly in Adwords land, an advert with the key word in the headline area will attract greater attention and greater numbers of clicks.

For Example.  When someone searches for “Perth Florist” in Google then the advert headline should say “Perth Florist” or “Florist in Perth” or “Fast Perth Florist”

If the person searches for Perth Flower Delivery then the advert headline should say “Perth Flower Delivery”

Adwords Tip Number 2 – Repeat the keywords in the content of the advert.

Repeating the targeted search phrase or keywords from that phrase in the advert reinforces the headline message from tip number 1.   While its not the only content strategy you should use, it is well worth testing against other benefit driven content in your Google Adwords advert.

Adwords Tip Number 3 – Repeat the keywords in the visible URL

The URL showing in the advert will need to be linked to an appropriate landing page on your web site, be it the home page or one specifically related to the searched key phrase.  The trick here is to place the keyword phrase in title case on the end of your URL as in the example below.

These are just three simple and effective strategies you can apply when writing Google Adwords adverts for your web site.
