Here is a very useful spam rule to use in Microsoft Outlook Express. The spam rule is presented in a flash tutorial and for GTP customers works extremely well.
GTP customers have the words [SPAM] placed into the subject line of suspect e-mails.
What this filter does is keep legitimate e-mails in your inbox while moving illegitimate e-mails into your junk box.
It does this by moving all e-mails with the phrase in the subject line "[SPAM]" into your junk box folder excluding those that have come from contacts that are listed in your contacts folder.
For GTP clients where suspect e-mails are tagged with the [SPAM] phrase this is a very useful process. However the principles can be used for any number of filters.
Click here to watch the Outlook Express [SPAM] tutorial that takes you step-by-step through the process of setting up in this rule which is summarised below
Unfortunately Outlook express does not allow you to set the address book (as does Outlook) but rather you need to insert all the contacts individually. This means from time to time you will need to go back to this filter or all and add in your additional address book contacts. You would usually do this by deleting everyone and then adding everyone back in.
The key to making this filter work is to make sure that you have all your contacts in your contacts folder in Outlook Express.
As you empty your junk box folder each day you may identify a legitimate e-mail. In which case simply add the sender to your contacts so further e-mails from this person end up in your inbox. A quick way to delete all your junk mail is to hold down the control key as you click the bottom e-mail then hold down the shift key as you press the delete key. This will permanently delete the emails. Make sure you have scanned your junk box folder for legitimate e-mails and moved these out before you do this.
